Northwest Lower Michigan — Charlevoix County · Town edition

East Jordan

An ironworking town on Lake Charlevoix with strong coffee, excellent cinnamon rolls, and winter woods just beyond the waterfront.

Overheard in East Jordan
East Jordan's manufacturing history is closely associated with ironworking.
Why winter

East Jordan sits where the Jordan River meets the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix. Its compact downtown offers waterfront views, independent coffee, simple local restaurants, and a quieter pace than the neighboring resort communities. Holiday gatherings brighten December, while the Jordan River Valley provides a magnificent winter landscape.

Field note

Iron Goat Coffee incorporates the town's industrial identity into its name.

A winter tall tale · as told in East Jordan

Why the Coffee Shop Has an Iron Goat

Iron Goat Coffee's owners wanted a name that connected coffee folklore with East Jordan's manufacturing heritage. A familiar coffee origin story involves goats discovering the stimulating effects of coffee berries, while iron pays tribute to East Jordan's industrial history. The shop adopted both references and now puts the town's ZIP code on its merchandise. Quite a lot of local identity for one small goat.
