Northern Green Bay & Lake Michigan · Town edition

Escanaba

A historic shipping and ore-dock port city on the scenic northern shores of Green Bay, famous for frozen bay fishing and classic U.P. hospitality.

Overheard in Escanaba
Escanaba famously inspired the hit Broadway comedy *Escanaba in da Moonlight*, capturing the eccentric, humorous hunting and fishing culture of the U.P.
Why winter

Escanaba in winter is a maritime and outdoor playground. When the shallow waters of Little Bay de Noc freeze solid, it turns into one of the Midwest's premier ice-fishing destinations for trophy walleye and perch. With historic Ludington Park framing the frozen bay, classic local supper clubs, and friendly U.P. taverns, it offers a welcoming winter escape.

A winter tall tale · as told in Escanaba

The salesman who stayed for chocolate

In 1902 Joseph Sayklly arrived in Escanaba from Lebanon and sold goods door to door. Four years later he opened a store, and candy slowly took over the shelves. His wife Mary joined the business, and Sayklly's became part of Upper Peninsula life. Some people leave a railroad behind; he left fudge.
