Frankenmuth

Michigan's Little Bavaria, where Christmas is a year-round religion, the glockenspiel chimes daily, and chicken dinners are served by the ton.

Why winter

Frankenmuth leans into winter with unapologetic Bavarian zeal. When the snow flies, the town’s half-timbered alpine facades and millions of holiday lights look exactly as intended. Between the colossal Zehnder's Snowfest ice-carving blocks, indoor waterparks for freezing families, and the sheer gravitational pull of Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, it is a brilliantly engineered mid-winter serotonin boost.

Overheard in Frankenmuth
Frankenmuth's Bavarian architecture is strictly enforced by local zoning, making every bank, fast-food joint, and clinic look like an Alpine chalet.

A winter tall tale · as told in Frankenmuth

The sign painter who built a Christmas empire

Wally Bronner was painting signs as a teenager when a 1945 job decorating lampposts in Clare changed his direction. The little decorating business grew into Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland, the world's largest year-round Christmas store, which settled in 1977 at the address 25 Christmas Lane. Frankenmuth keeps Christmas in every month that fails to object.
