More ways into Michigan winter

Same lakes. Different magic.

Frozen spray, long piers, ice that looks carved and light that changes by the minute. Admire it from shore; winter water does not negotiate.

Lighthouses from the shore

Make the lighthouse the visual anchor, then choose an accessible land-based viewpoint and a warm stop in town. Winter tower tours, parking, paths and seasonal access need individual checks. Icy piers and breakwaters are not a shortcut to a photograph.

Great Lakes towns

Start with Ludington, Petoskey or Cheboygan and their town guides. Pair a short shoreline outing with art, lunch or a performance. Leave room to turn around early when wind or footing changes the plan.

Inland-lake winter

Cadillac and Mitchell, Houghton Lake and Higgins Lake offer different inland-lake settings. Decide whether your day is a town visit, a marked-trail walk or a guided fishing outing; each needs different access and equipment checks.
