A winter tall tale · as told in Marquette

The Lilac Lady of the Landmark Inn

The Landmark Inn has looked out over Lake Superior since 1930, and its sixth floor comes with a story. A woman in a floral dress, the tale goes, waited in what is now the Lilac Room for a sailor who never came back from the lake, and grief got the better of her. Staff still mention calls from the room when nobody is booked into it, and the odd glimpse of floral print at the end of the hall.
