Northville

A compact historic downtown, wooded winter trails and a parade with its own electricity bill.

Why winter

Maybury supplies a real stretch of woods close to a very walkable dinner district. The lighted parade, greens market and Mill Race holiday events give late autumn a convincing winter dress rehearsal.

Overheard in Northville
Mill Race Village gathers a blacksmith shop, school, inn and other pieces of local history.
A random Saturday

No plans? Good. Try these.

A random Saturday · 01

A school, a forge, a perfectly modern coffee

On Mill Race's walking route, find the school and blacksmith shop, then return to Tuscan Cafe and appreciate how little work a hot drink now requires.

Give the weather a performance review

Walk Maybury's wooded trails, then rate the day's winter conditions over a warm Rebecca's lunch; the snow receives no right of reply.

Make it a weekend

Saturday: Maybury, Rebecca's lunch, Art House before 3 p.m. and Garage dinner. Sunday: Mill Race when open and a late-morning Garage brunch; substitute the parade and greens market on their November weekend.

One good day

Tuscan Cafe → a Maybury walk → Mill Race grounds if accessible → a reserved Table 5 dinner.

A winter tall tale · as told in Northville

The woods had a previous occupation

Maybury State Park occupies land once used by the Maybury Sanatorium. Michigan acquired the property in 1971. Today the park covers about 1,000 acres of woods, meadows and trails. The fresh air remains; the appointment book has improved.

Good to know: Live-checked October 26, 2026. Two lodging options and skate rental are in nearby Plymouth; Home2 is outside the walkable downtown. North Center Brewing closed in 2024 and is omitted. Winery's posted seasonal hours require a winter recheck. Rebecca's Friday–Saturday closing changes to 7 p.m. in winter; its other days close earlier. Art House's published winter holiday break removes it from Christmas-week itineraries.

Reviewed October 2026. Hours, prices and dates move; call ahead in January and February.
