The Dow Chemical legacy means incredible philanthropy funds the local parks and arts infrastructure.
Why winter

Midland treats winter as a season to be engineered and fully enjoyed. The city's deep philanthropic pockets mean winter infrastructure is top-tier, from the region's best lighted toboggan runs at City Forest to an elevated forest canopy walk that looks spectacular under fresh snow.

A winter tall tale · as told in Midland

The day Midland tried to trade its bridge

On April Fools' Day 2026, Midland, Michigan, and Midland, Texas, jointly announced a civic swap: Michigan's three-legged Tridge would go to Texas in exchange for a roundabout. The announcement claimed, among other things, that the bridge was built by ancient aliens shortly after the pyramids. The bridge stayed, the roundabout stayed, and two towns with one name had a very good day.
