Saugatuck–Douglas
Two art towns trade the summer rush for good dinners, snowy dunes and a lively winter welcome.
Art Coast is an identity shared by artists, galleries and the two downtowns.
A school day with better refreshments
On a Saturday, visit the History Center in Douglas's 1866 schoolhouse, then take your extremely optional homework to Respite for coffee and a pastry.
Ghost-town research, no trespassing required
Read the History Center's Singapore account, find the former bank building at 317 Butler Street from the public sidewalk, then discuss its worthless banknotes over coffee at Uncommon. No shovel is needed.

Uncommon coffee → Landsharks rentals and Saugatuck Dunes trails → Farmhouse Deli lunch before its close → Bowdie's or Everyday People dinner.
Saturday: Douglas History Center, Respite and gallery browsing, then a Southerner dinner and the Dunes nightclub if that suits your evening. Sunday: Uncommon, a short dunes outing or a dated SCA program, then Phil's or Saugatuck Brewing.
