St. Joseph
A bluff-top lake town where winter means a million lights, carved carousel animals and respectable amounts of pizza.

St. Joe is the everyday name; St. Joseph is the version for the envelope.
A very short dinosaur expedition
At Silver Beach Carousel, find Rotary Raptor's leaf-shaped seat, then conduct a serious coffee debrief at Forté. No excavation permit required.
Bluff, brew, repeat
Compare Richard Hunt's Rising Crossing Tides at Krasl with the actual lake from the bluff, then move the discussion indoors at Silver Harbor.

Saturday: carousel, downtown lunch and skating once the winter schedule opens; stay at the Boulevard Inn and book Bistro dinner. Sunday: drive to Sarett for a snow-dependent ski or snowshoe outing, then return for coffee and pizza.
Forté coffee → Krasl's galleries and sculpture → Caffè Tosi lunch → carousel ride → Silver Beach Pizza and, after dark, the bluff's holiday lights when operating.

Georgia Reuben
For a home version, layer turkey and Swiss on sturdy bread with ginger slaw and Russian dressing. Toast until the cheese gives in; keep the slaw crisp enough to argue back.

Three things most people walk past.
- Peanut the elephant's blue saddle: a bear perched on a soccer ball.
- Rotary Raptor's leaf seat and the blue peeking through its dark feathers.
- Bear's maize-and-blue saddle, a nod to St. Joseph High School.

Local customTreat the carousel token as both admission and a tiny collectible.
- At Reindog, the dog may be better dressed than its owner.
- Leave the ski tracks at Sarett to the skiers; snowshoes have their own routes.
- The bluff above Silver Beach gives downtown its lake view and its own supply of wind.
- St. Joseph and Benton Harbor are twin cities across the river, with separate downtowns and shared regional outings.
- The carousel carries school mascots as well as horses: local loyalties travel in circles.
